A couple of years back I went to a gig at the Hare and Hounds in Kings Heath. I was wearing my regulation gig jacket, a once-black Levi’s ® with a big fluffy collar that’s been in the family since the mid-1990s.
Some young guy, a friendly friend of a friend who probably wasn’t much older than my jacket, tried to spark up conversation with me. ‘Nice jacket!’ he said. ‘Did you get it from a vintage shop?’
‘It wasn’t vintage when I bought it,’ I snarled.
